The Limitless Power of Imagination

I thought this would be an appropriate first blog post considering everything starts in our imagination. On the way home on my drive from Sedona I was listening to a tape by Wayne Dyer about changing what you think about. Most of what he talked about I had heard before. But then he said something that really struck me. He said that the only place where there are absolutely no limitations is in your mind, because it’s not physical reality.

This means that your ability to visualize is simply outrageous. If you wanted to visualize flying cars, flying skateboards, and even flying bicycles you could. You could close your eyes in this very moment and imagine ANYTHING YOU WANT. What’s amazing is everything in our physical world is the byproduct of imagination. The internet browser you are using to read this blog post, the computer used to connect to the internet, and the keyboard I am writing this blog post on, were all once just a picture in somebody’s mind, an object that was imaginable. Yet, today the lack of existence, lack of manifestation of these things is unimaginable. In other words, the thing that we imagine has now become our physical reality.

The problem is that we have learned limitation by observing the physical world around us. We get advice like be realistic, be practical, and all sorts of other things that stifle the infinite possibilities of our imagination. Unlike the school of life, our traditional educational institutions teach us about rules, regulations, and structure that keep the mind from stretching into this world of fantasy and creation that only imagination is capable of. In fact if we told a group of college that their grade in a course would be determined on the outrageousness of their ideas, most would probably fail because by the time they’ve reached college, practicality, and realism are ingrained into their belief system. A movie that really shows us the amazing power of this and how we forget it as adults is Disney’s the Kid. I realized why I love that movie so much after watching it the other night. It’s the movie that teaches us to start dreaming again.

So how do we put this power to use? I’ve scoured the Internet looking for material on creative visualization; I downloaded e-books, bought audio books and two resources have been really powerful for me. The first is Steve Martile’s 5 Part Course on Visualization and the other is the free peak performance download of Paul Scheele’s paraliminal tape. Combine the two and let me know what happens.
