While this could be a series that goes on for 10 years, I think I’ll wrap it up with this post on the impact of perception with an example that we can all identify with. Rumor has it some of the wealthiest people in America made their fortunes during the Great Depression. At the same time many people lost fortunes during that time as well. In our current economic condition, many people are seeing the negative side of things. I will be the first to admit, despite being a personal development blogger, I’ve struggled with seeing the good side of not having a job after graduation from business school. But, I also know the flip side of the coin, the impact that perception has will either show me opportunity or adversity. I recommend you chose the route of opportunity.
Somehow when you start to see opportunity, you just see more and more of it. It’s the Law of Attraction at Work. The opportunities that exist now, when we are unemployed and trying to figure it all out are endless. It’s perhaps one of the greatest times in our lives to get to know ourselves a little bit better. As I’ve gotten to know myself, I’ve come to a profound realization that I never had before. I’m a fairly prolific writer. But, I’ve never had the opportunity to explore my knack for writing in this capacity. Given that I’m applying for jobs as a social media marketer, blogging is one of the best ways to build on my skill set, and so I’ve put forth the kind of effort into this project that having a full time job would not have enabled me to do.
Yesterday my dad told me what was news I really didn’t want to hear. He told me that I should move home to my parents house which is one hour away from Los Angeles. I thought to myself “wow, this really sucks.” But then I thought “If I took one of those self improvement programs, I could literally take massive action since I’d have nothing else going on, so maybe there’s an opportunity.” So, maybe adversity is really just opportunity, but our perception gets in the way.

It’s always a good idea to try to see the good in a potentially bad situation. As you said, you never know when adversity can transform itself into opportunity!
