If you build it they will come…focus on content not traffic

by srinirao on May 7, 2009

I thought this would make an interesting addendum to my post yesterday to share my most relevant example of  digging up the seeds we plant. I started this blog about a week ago, and by following the first few lessons in Yaro Starak’s mastermind program, I’ve been fortunate enough to get over 100 unique visitors in my first week and even comments from heavily trafficked blogs such as Positively Present.

But yesterday’s post I wrote made me think about something specifically related to this blog. One of the things I’ve been doing everyday for the last week for this blog and my other blog BizSkoolblog is checking Google analytics. While I’m all in support of knowing where your traffic comes from and doing things to improve it, I came to the realization that checking Google analytics every single day is like digging up the seeds I’m planting.  So I’ve decided to do a little experiment with the Law of Attraction to confirm my theory. For the next few weeks I’ve decided that I’m only going to focus on writing and promoting content.  I’m going approach things from the Field of Dreams mindset that “If you build it they will come.”

Thanks for the shout out! I completely agree — if you put out good content, people will come visit your blog. Focusing on writing is much better than trying to get as many people to stop by your blog as you can. This is great advice — I hope lots of new bloggers read it! :)

Thanks :) . It’s funny because this morning I was struggling for a topic and as I was checking my google analytics last night, I was like “Wait a minute, I’m digging up the seeds. I should just do work on the other stuff.”

Yep, I don’t check my stats cause my blog is so new (don’t want to loose my enthusiasm if I find out people arn’t actually reading) . I agree that we should focus on content, it is hard to get pulled in many different directions, when you realize that the content IS the blog (basically)
I really am not good at tech stuff at all, it is very frustrating when I get caught up in it and don’t get to a blog post (I have 2 babies and my time is limited and often interrupted)
This is my first time to your blog, I can already tell that I will be back. Your writing is easy and welcoming, I feel like I am sitting across from you at a coffee shop:)
