We have all had times in our lives when the power of momentum has kicked in and we just seem to be in a state of flow. It seems as though we can do no wrong, everything we’ve wished for is magically appearing in our lives, people are drawn to us like never before, and we tell everybody that we are on “Cloud 9.” But, then we somehow return our day to day life, our feet hit the ground, and our supposedly unexplainable success dwindles. In my interview with author Lamar Smith, he mentioned the fact that often we remember how we managed to fail, but for some reason we rarely remember how we succeeded. As I was driving home yesterday, I was chatting with an old friend who started the personal development journey with me, and we started talking about these periods in our lives when we just seemed to be on a roll. As we we were talking I realized, that each of these periods of my life when I had been on a roll had specific personal development efforts related to them (affirmations, power questions, etc.) Yet, after they worked initially, I never really did them again in full force. So, I realized it was time to isolate my success mechanisms and put them to work. In my own life I identified two major success mechanisms:
1. Morning Power Questions: I wrote about the power of morning questions before, so I won’t dwell on it too much. But, if you ask yourself 5 empowering questions (i.e. Why am I so smart, Why am I awesome, etc, etc.) every morning when you wake up for 30 days, then eventually your subconscious will connect being awake with that powerful state of mind.
2. Charisma/Confidence Hypnosis Tapes: When I was in India for Christmas 2 years ago, I didn’t have much to do. I was staying at my grandmother’s house and nobody my age was around. So, I spent most of my time reading books. I also got into a routine of spending 20 minutes every day listening to Paul Mckenna’s hypnosis tapes. When I got back from India I seemed to be on another roll of having people drawn to me.
I’ve given you two success mechanisms that you can use that have worked for me. But, let’s get into how YOU can really use the ideas in this post. No matter what your life situation is currently, there has been at least one success in your life. Even if you got a job at Mcdonald’s in high school (that was my first job btw), then you have had a success. So, how do you isolate your success mechanism?
4 Steps to Identifying Your Success Mechanisms
1. Identify an event or success in your life
2. Spend about 20 minutes thinking of every detail of that period in your life: how were you carrying yourself, what were your conversations like. But, above all, what were you thinking?
3. Once you have identified what you were thinking, you have more or less identified the most important success mechanism.
4. Combine your thought process and external picture of your previous success, and use that in the form of an affirmation or visualization.
There’s a good chance you’ll find that the periods in your life when you hit momentum all tended to have the exact same success mechanisms in common.

Very interesting and informative. It’s important to bring it down to the basics. What were the basic drivers that made a success?
And we can get even more essential. What is life about? What exactly do I want for my remaining days?
