If you have a positive mind, you can go far. All goals start with a plan and the drive to succeed. When you have a positive attitude, you give yourself that drive that you need. Without it, negative thoughts creep up and they can get in the way of your success.

The Foundation

There are many things that factor into the equation when you’re striving to become successful. Some of them are more important than others. There are also certain things that you need at the very beginning that can determine your success. One of them is pure positive thinking.

All you need to do is think of a time when you allowed negative thinking to take over. In my personal experience, I remember a time when I was young and couldn’t muster up the courage to jump off the high dive like the rest of the children. I believed that I couldn’t do it, and so I didn’t try for a long time. This means that I failed right at the beginning just because I didn’t believe that I could do it. Of course this is a relatively small example in the scheme of things, but it illustrates the point that negative thoughts can hinder your success right from the beginning.

A Positive Mindset

Having a positive mindset is vital because it allows you to take the steps you need to take in order to find success. Achieving success is rarely ever easy, and so there are bound to be bumps in the road and times when you’ll be tempted into negative thinking patterns.

You can learn to recognize these negative thoughts and stop them in their place. They’re almost like road blocks, if you learn how to get around them or over them, you’ll keep up with your journey. Positive thinking is like your fuel, you need enough of it to get you through to the end.

How To Gain A Positive Attitude

This might be considered the hard part. Some people feel like they just don’t have a positive attitude, but you can change anything when you put your mind to it. Having a positive mindset is not an exception to this rule.

Consider trying some of the follow positive thinking strategies:

1.    Correct Your Self-Talk. Take a hard look at the way you treat yourself. Sometimes people tend to be too critical of themselves. You need to start with believing in yourself and your image. Start telling yourself that you have what it takes to succeed.

2.    Affirmations. You can bring on a positive mindset through the use of positive affirmations. Use short positive statements in the present tense to describe your situation and your journey to success. You can even straight out tell yourself things like “I have a positive mind” and “I have a positive attitude” and if you tell yourself enough times it can become true. This is because your subconscious is very powerful.

3.    Use Positive Reflections. One way of making sure you have a positive mindset is to give yourself a little push in the right direction. You want to adopt the “glass is half full” mentality so you must focus on the positive aspects of life. Sure there are going to be bad things that happened during the day, but at the end of the day you should reflect on the things that were positive.

Achieving Success

You’ll soon find that your efforts to gain a positive mind can yield some serious benefits. Believing in yourself can light a fire under you when it really matters. This drive is all you need to succeed. Don’t allow negative thoughts or doubts to get in the way.

I also noticed that being around other positive people and blocking out negative people really helps. I made that decision and noticed serious change in how my life began to turn towards a positive direction. Thanks for the post.

I could not have said it better myself, from reading “Think and Grow Rich” I learned the same lesson you are teaching here, I completely agree that positivity is the key to success in many facets of life including business, networking and personal growth. I’m glad you took the time to boil it down into steps. Thanks!

When I feel depressed or stressed out, I always look over the horizon and think of many positive things that I have gained throughout my life. It really helps to cast away negative thinking. I have just started blogging and hoping that I will gain more positives through it. Thanks for the inspiring post.

@Mark: Thanks for the guest post here.

@Robby: I definitely agree with you about surrounding yourself with positive people. I’ve spent portions of my life around some pretty negative people and had to eliminate them from my life eventually.

@Brian: I’ve been going through Think and Grow Rich religiously and love it. I think it’s a resource that needs to be reviewed multiple times.

@Rick: It’s really about just shifting perspective in order see a change.

@Robby G.: Yes, hanging out with positive people certainly helps. That’s why I make it a point to go out with people who have a more positive attitude nowadays. Like Srinirao, I’ve also eliminated some negative people from my life.

@Positively Present: From your comment, I assume you have already adopted a positive mind. Awesome!

@Brian: I’m glad you like the post. I’ve learned a lot from ‘Think and Grow Rich’ but I think I need to re-read it so that I can learn the lessons I’ve missed out during the first read.

@Rick: Yes, it’s always important to keep a positive mind when we’re stressed or depressed so that we will have the strength to keep moving forward.

@Srinirao: Thank you so much for the opportunity to guest post here. It’s been a real pleasure. :)

Cheers~

Mark
