The other day I started thinking about a phrase I’ve come across over and over again in my personal development journey. “Life is not about what happens to you, but how you react or interpret what happens to you.” As, I’ve further explored the power of beliefs, I’ve learned the beliefs are basically the filters through which you see the world.
A few days ago, I had written about the importance of making note of the evidence, but I wanted to take this concept a bit further based on something a person told me quite some time back and seemed to work wonders in my life. He told to more or less interpret my ENTIRE experience through the the filter of an empowering belief. So, what the hell does that mean exactly?
Let’s say that you have a belief or affirmation that you have wanted in your life. Then, interpret everything that happens in your life, as an event that supports that belief or affirmation. Let me give you an example:
Affirming wealth: Say that you have chosen to affirm or believe in abundant wealth, and you are walking down the road and you find a penny.
- Filter through an empowering belief: this is just the beginning of money just flowing into my life
- Filter through a disempowering belief: what the hell can I get for penny, it’s just a penny, etc, etc.
Affirming Health: Say that you have chosen to affirm health, particularly in the area of weight loss, and you see yourself looking the slightest bit skinnier
- Filter through an empowering belief: wow, I look like I’m losing weight
- Filter through a disempowering belief: I probably only look skinny because I just woke up
Wealth and health are just a few of the many areas in our lives in which we can use this technique. When you interpret everything that happens in your life through the filters of an empowering belief, I’ve noticed that it tends to accelerate the reprogramming of our mind.

This is a great tactic. I love the idea of filtering your reality and what could be a better way to do this than through empowering beliefs? Great post!
