Chose a day of peace

Sunday afternoon a former classmate of mine told me something that was a pearl of wisdom to refresh my mind that I hadn’t thought of.  She said to me “People fly thousands of miles a way, and spend thousands of dollars on vacation so they can sit on the beach and do nothing. We can do that anytime we want for free and we don’t.” It’s moments like that I realize, as much as I hate being unemployed, there are some major benefits if you start to change the way you look at things.  I also feel blessed to live in Los Angeles, near what is evidently my favorite part of nature, the beach.

So, after  what has probably been 3 months straight of submitting job applications, learning how to network, and writing on and marketing my blog, I decided that I would chose a day of peace.  I decided that I would do absolutely nothing related to my job search. Usually on a day where I don’t submit resumes, I always look through my RSS feeds to see new jobs that were posted.  Today, I basically ignored it.

After spending an hour or two surfing, my leash broke off my board because the waves were so strong. So, I decided to go put my board in the car and just walk along the beach.  Ten minutes later, I ran into a friend from school, and I just did nothing.  The greatest part of it was that I came up with new ideas for blog posts for the next week and my creativity flowed.  So, I encourage everybody to chose a day of peace. Don’t do anything that you think you have to do, but don’t have to. If you can put a task on the backburner do it, and do something outdoors.

In age of information overload, a day of doing nothing, has almost become challenging. But, I think that if you give up activity for a day or two, or maybe even a full week, and just focus on the things that bring you peace, it tends to refresh the mind for better performance.  Like most things, after the batteries have been recharged it runs better. Choose a day of peace :) .

Excellent post!!! You are spot on, often at times I get so caught up in my To-Do list that I feel overwhelmed. It’s extremely refreshing just do nothing for a day so that you’re able to recharge and tackle the opportunities that are presented to you.

I really need to choose a day of peace. Things have been hectic for me at work and I need a day to just relax and BE. Thanks for the reminder.

Hey really like the ‘chose a day of peace’ post. Right up my ally. As for the submitting of applications for months, i’ve been there and what’s funny. Is during that time, i’ve never taken more time than then to just reflect, visualize abundance and reward myself for the things that i did accomplish to that point. So many people are caught up in the rat race, they don’t spend the time to find the cheese. Your post really hit a sure spot for myself.

I would like to invite you to do a guest post on my blog anytime in the near future. Blessings and Success!
