I know I’ve slammed you all week with content on blogging and strayed from the personal development focus a bit. So, hopefully you’ll be able to take some life lesson from this post. As I was speaking with Nathan Hangen today about about why bloggers fail, he gave me the analogy of a brick wall. They say most bloggers don’t make it past the first 6 months. It could be that the traffic isn’t there, the comments aren’t there, or they just lose their steam. Whatever happens, many blogs cease to publish content at some point. Even for the blogs that do succeed, at some point in their blogging lives they hit a brick wall. The key really is realizing one thing. YOU ARE ON THE VERGE OF MASSIVE SUCCESS. It’s usually when things seems like they are completely falling apart that we often have our biggest breakthroughs. But some people chose to have breakdown. So, how do you blow through a brick wall when you reach it?
1) Pretend it doesn’t exist. The truth is that it only exists in your mind. You have the ability to create and destroy these walls. So, destroy them.
2) Climb Over it: You can climb the wall to get to the other side. It’s alot easier to get down a hill then it is to get up it. It might take some time. So just remember if you make it over the brick wall, it’s likely gonna be a much smoother ride when you get over the wall.
3)Blow through it: Make the decision that you’re not going to be held back by a brick wall. The thing about a brick wall is that it’s not really on a sturdy foundation. Pull out the bottom brick and the whole damn thing will fall apart. That’s why in places where they have earthquakes nobody builds with brick. I honestly have had moments where I felt like I’ve hit a brick wall with my blog, but in those moments I think about how far I’ve come and figure I’ll just blow through it.
Riding the peaks:
What is there to say about this? This your moment. It’s time to shine. Embrace it, love it, live it, and give it your all.
Climbing out Valleys:
Climbing out of valleys is often harder than getting through the brick wall. This is because you’ve once been at the peak and you’ve known better times. Well, keep climbing. The second time you get to ride the peak you’re going to be even higher than you were before.

I’ve written something similar, and I’ve seen bloggers who’ve stopped at the wall and given up, and some who have made it through the wall.
You just have to dig in and keep going – I’ve been there, I know it’s true.
And here’s a tip – get your partner onside, you’ll need his or her help to do it.
Mike,
There is no doubt that we all have this inner drive inside of us to succeed. I think problem wiht many bloggers is we have a short term focus. Instead of being like the baby learning to walk, who never gives up, we actually learn as adults to give up on things. That’s why so many don’t break past the 6 month mark. I figure I’m just hitting my stride and the real progress happens in the next 6 months. You have crawl before you walk, and walk before you learn to fly.
Riding the peak.
I need to get to OB. Winter surf is on, and I’m wasting my life in front of a keyboard. Lame lame lame.
Dave,
I totally understand that feeling. Winter surf in OB I’ve heard is pretty hardcore so you must be a really good surfer. I’m a So Cal surfer myself and loving the winter swells.
Cool post, and thanks for the mention. Enjoyed our talk the other night!
