The other day one of my friends posted these 4 quotes on her Facebook profile after watching the movie 21 and I immediately decided to steal them and write a blog post about them.  I guess you could say I’ve become a master of finding my inspiration in unusual places. Who would have guessed card counters, professional gamblers, and Las Vegas could teach us a little about personal development?

Don’t gamble, think logically

While there are certain areas of life where you have to take risks and be willing to fail, perhaps this lesson is best applied to managing your money.  It’s simple, it’s to the point and it’s effective. When you gamble you essentially are betting on the unknown. That’s the difference between a gambler and card counter. A card counter is betting on a known level of certainty.  Have some knowledge of what you are getting yourself into. Don’t be bet blindly on anything in life.

Put your emotions aside and play with your head

Getting emotional in the right moments is useful, but getting emotional in the wrong moments is one of the most destructive forces of nature. In fact, you really have to learn to manage your ego to reach your full potential.  When you get emotional, you’re giving into your ego. It’s been said at naseum: “Life is not about what happens to you, but how you react to what happens to you.”

Hit hard, hit big and get out when you’re supposed to

I love this one.  Inside each and every one of is a person who is capable of absolute magic. There really are no limits to what you can accomplish. When you hit momentum, leverage the hell out of it, ride it out, and before you hit a brick wall, move on to your next adventure.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow’s a mystery

Let go of the past as soon as you can. The best thing about the past is that it already happened. When you live in the past and you play the incident over and over in your head, it’s worse than when it actually happen because you’re repeating the experience multiple times. Tomorrow is always a mystery, but that’s what makes life interesting. If you could predict with 100 percent certainty every single day, life would be pretty boring.

In many ways life is kind of like a blackjack game. Always account for variable change.

You are getting pretty good at finding inspiration in all sorts of places. :)

Thinking logically as much as possible is cool, but there are times when we still have to take a risk. Narrowing the odds is what it’s all about.

I like how you brought up “Put your emotions aside and play with your head”, you are absolutely right. Emotions play a big factor in terms of successes, however, they can also hold people back and keep them in forever misery.

Keep up finding life lessons :)
